GIRLS on BOYS!  by Charmaine Attard

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. Generally women expect men to think, communicate and react the way women do, and vice-versa.  Usually, these unrealistic expectations cause frustration. A lot of girls state that they have never understood the workings of a man’s mind, yet others think they do but actually they don’t! Needless to say, the same goes for men! Charmaine Attard went out there to see what the situation is amongst Gozitan youths of today. Having asked a bunch of questions to the boys, she proceeded to get the girls’ opinion of what the boys might have answered. The results are interesting and revealing – read on!

“John, please put your room in order before you go out!” Is there any boy out there whose mum has never uttered a similar phrase throughout his sweet years of existence? Girls, some with frowns and others with grins on their faces, rightly believe that their male counterparts prefer watching TV to cleaning their room. No surprise here: the guys coolly and proudly confirm this!

Girls state that the guys enjoy going for a ride with their car, much more than going out for a drink, and the boys fully verify this. Car maniacs!  The next question entirely confirms it. 

What will the typical Gozitan guy be doing on a bright sunny day? Will he go shopping with his nagging girlfriend? No way! The majority prefers cleaning and polishing their car on such days, preparing for their pompous parade on their Sunday drives in an attempt to make others eat their hearts out. However, one can still find some sweet guys who opt to please their girlfriends! These individuals deserve a good round of applause! Nevertheless, like in any other case, there are always exceptions to the rule, as others would take advantage of such a lovely day to go for sport activities such as abseiling and diving.

However they do go out occasionally…oh yes! When planning the night out, they prefer to chill out with friends in a pub drinking beer or other alcoholic beverages, rather than frequenting parties. Although they do have a tendency of going insane when a famous DJ like Tiesto visits the Maltese Islands, both girls and boys are in agreement that the guys are not overly keen on parties.

With regard to music, Gozitan guys’ first preference is techno music, followed by commercial and pop music, with classical music the least followed genre. Although that more or less matches up with what the girls think about their male counterparts’ music tastes, they think that rock is the male preferred choice to pop music.

What about movies? Is it fun to go to the cinema with a chap from Gozo?  Well if you’re fond of action and horror, it will definitely be your night out! Once again girls are well informed about the boys’ preferred film genre. Girls know full well that a romantic movie is the last the boys will opt to watch.  Moreover, several Gozitan guys admit that they like to watch pornographic movies!

If he had to be deprived of something for a whole week, will the typical Gozitan choose not meeting his girlfriend, or not having internet access? A tough question for many, however, with the support of their female counterparts the boys opt bravely for not having internet access. We should be proud of our island’s future men as it shows that they are caring and respecting their loved ones!

And here comes some good news for the Gozitan girls.  On the contrary to what they actually think of the Gozitan guys’ ideal date, the boys claim that they prefer to date local girls to foreigners.  Moreover, the majority of the girls think that guys prefer blondes to brunettes, but they are awfully wrong again. Gozitan boys love brunettes!! Girls think that guys go for younger girls and those of the same age.  This is not necessarily the true picture, as some boys do like dating older females.

What does a Gozitan male notice first about a girl? The girls certainly think that first breasts, secondly eyes, and thirdly legs and buttocks are checked out. But would you believe it? This is not the case! Actually, they look first at the eyes, followed by hair and then breasts. Some of them even look at fingers!

8’o clock in the evening: A Gozitan is waiting for his girlfriend outside her house. She will be ready at 8.30 p.m. How will he typically react? Well, even if she were a beautiful angel falling from heaven, after five minutes waiting, he will start beeping the horn, until she shows up. In the meantime he’ll start calling you and sending you heaps of text messages! Others will even get furious and start yelling as soon as their girlfriend jumps into the car.  Thankfully, again there are exceptions.  There are indeed a few, who will actually greet their girlfriend as if nothing has happened. But watch out: yet others admit they would disappear, and when their girlfriend finally walks out the door, she finds nothing but an empty parking space!

While the girls reckon that more than ten percent of Gozitan boys engage in sexual intercourse, their male counterparts emphasise that a more realistic scenario would, in fact be, that only one out of ten guys is sexually active. However, all of them agree that these men are responsible enough and prefer to use contraceptives.

We’re on the verge of Christmas time, the time of the year when everybody hits the shops and empties their pockets.  Thinking of the ideal Christmas gift for their boyfriend, the majority of Gozitan girls generally go for perfumes and clothes. However, some of them think that the boys would be glad receiving a mobile, a DVD, a watch, a make-over voucher, a massage, car or motorbike accessories, and even a car itself!  There are some who even think that they will enjoy receiving The Dummy’s Guide as they need to learn to care about themselves and people around them. OUCH!!!

But what would the boys themselves prefer to receive from their girlfriend for Christmas? Apart from clothes, watches, silverware, mp3 player, inexpensive car or PC accessories, quite a few wish to receive rather expensive presents such as PDA’s, a holiday in Hawaii and a car!

So come on girlies, get ready to go shopping and pick out the ideal present for the boy of your dreams!  And if you don’t, then maybe decide to give him just lots of love and a hug as this is what some of them desire as a Christmas gift anyway!
